Landscape Design Process

Initial Meeting or Consultation

In providing such things as landscape designs, concept and planting plans, consultations, tree and arborist reports and more, we first get to know you, your ideas, your property and its surrounding areas.

Here is a list of the things we provide:

  • Landscape Designs
  • Landscape Concept Plans
  • Planting Plans
  • Landscape Consultations
  • Tree Reports
  • Aborist Reports
  • Landscape Contractor Selections
  • Non Destructive Root Investigations

Next we explore your site, its assets and aspects, to more successfully understand requirements based on lifestyle, tastes, family and goals.

After observing your sites existing features, the neighborhood, understanding your goals and how it all interconnects and relates, we take notes, measurements, photographs, and obtain copies of any site or building plans, cad files if available and if required.

It is important that you feel like the creator of the emerging plan. At this point we can provide you with a cost estimate for the service we have agreed on.

Concept Plan

A concept plan is generally used for larger projects or to define various elements within a landscape design. We love laying out say the house on the block or area of landscape and include the broad or important areas of the landscape that need to be defined. Often we will take a broad concept drawing and brain storm with a client, sometimes verbally and sometimes write and take notes all over the drawing to better define elements of the Landscape Design.
We encourage clients to be involved and as today the internet is so available to gain real ideas ask them to visit a some special sites to gain ideas and or feed back to us theirs. Most people have good constructive ideas about what they want.

Client involvement at this development stage helps you to engage, be involved, own and as possible determine the outcome of the landscape design you will own. We are there to advise, provide lots of information, guide and help to determine best result outcomes.

Planting Plan

A planting plan can be very detailed showing very individual plant species, grouped plantings, planting themes and a clients or landscape designers favourite plants.

Plants are wonderful to use and understand as they can be so different ranging through trees, taller shrubs, small shrubs, grasses and tufts, deciduous, evergreen, ground covers, myriads of flowering species, plants with really defining textures, different sorts of plants like palms, ferns, things like cycads, vegetables, herbs, fruit trees. Plants can be fun to learn about and explore and many people have their real favourite plants. Some can be reminders of mum, dad, a pet or other special people or things.
Plants can be gifts to celebrate a lost life, add structure and form or be planted say in groups for various reasons.

Landscape planting plans can be very separate or complimentary to a landscape design and some clients like to explore and add their own planting concepts into a landscape design.

Landscape Design Plan

We often provide our landscape designs as two separate drawings; a Planting Plan and what we call our Surfaces and Finishes Plan. We do this for clarity and separation of the plants from all of the hard landscape design elements like paving, concrete, water features, spas, decks, pergolas, pools, irrigation systems, retaining walls, complex structural landscape elements.

Some landscape designs can include within them all elements including planting depending on how complex the landscape project is.

We find for more complex projects landscape contractors and others using our drawing like the Planting Plan to be separate to the actual landscape design.

We also find some residential clients like to have the landscape design Surfaces and Finishes Plan separate if they are do aspects or all of the landscaping projects themselves.

We have several landscape contractors, garden maintenance experts people to carry out Non Destructive Root Investigations for trees, concreters, pavers, pool or spa builders, fencing contractors and all sorts of contractors to complete your project.
